PERSONAL PROFILE of Dr. N. NAGAIAH

Dr. N Nagaiah obtained M.Sc degree in Physics from University of Mysore in the year 1991 and worked as a JRF under the AERB sponsored research project to Prof. P. Venkataramaiah, Former Vice Chancellor of Kuvempu University in the year 1991. He received Ph.D degree from the same University during 1996 in the field of Environmental Radioactivity. He served as a lecturer in Physics for 6 years in Govt. first grade colleges, Dept. of Collegiate Education, Government of Karnataka, appointed by Kuvempu University as a lecturer in physics in the year 1998 and served up to March 2003. Later, he joined Bangalore University in March 2003 as a Reader in Physics and has been working as a Professor of Physics since 2010. He has 30 years of teaching and research experience. He has served as a Chairman, Department of Physics, Bangalore University, JB Campus, Bengaluru-56 during 2017 & 2018. He has also served as Chairman, BOE & BOS of Bangalore University & others and has been actively involved in several academic/administrative activities like, member of LIC, Governing council, BOE & BOS. He is held responsible in shaping the curriculum and laboratory for Nuclear & Particle Physics course in the Department of Physics, Bangalore University, Bengaluru.

His areas of research include Environmental Radioactivity, Radiation Protection, Polymer composite radiation shields and Atmospheric electrical conductivity. He takes the credit of completing two major research projects funded by DAE-BRNS & UGC. Has published more than 80 research articles in National & International journals and conferences and also delivered Invited talks in several National & International conferences/workshops. He has successfully guided 3 students for the award of Master of Philosophy & 7 students for Doctor of Philosophy in Physics and presently guiding 5 students for their Ph.D programme. Students who have worked under his guidance have received, Young Researcher award, ISRP-Nucleonix award, Best oral/poster presentation awards.

He is a member of several professional bodies like Indian Physics Association (IPA), Indian Nuclear Society (INS), Indian society for Radiation Physics (ISRP), Indian Association for Radiation Protection (IARP), Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists and Allied Scientists (IANCAS) and Karnataka Association for the Advancement of Science (KAAS). He has organized two national conferences (NCRP 2017 & NCRP 2022) which was a grand success. His expertise is being utilized as a reviewer of several international journals like Journal of Applied polymer science, Medical physics, Radiation Physics and Chemistry, Radiation protection dosimetry, Radiation protection and environment, Scientific reports etc. He has in his credit as a Guest editor of one of the special issues of Radiation protection dosimetry (2023), Indian Journal of Pure and applied Physics (2018) & Radiation protection and environment (2018).

He has been motivating several students/teachers to develop scientific attitude, professional ethics & social service. In addition to his academic and research activities, he is serving presently as a Treasurer of Karnataka Association for the Advancement of Science (KAAS) & Executive Council member of Bangalore University Teachers Council (BUTC), Bangalore University, JB Campus, Bengaluru.

Dr. G. N. Dayananda

Dr. Dayananda graduated from the University College of Engineering in Bangalore with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering in 1985 and a Master of Engineering degree in Machine Design in 1987. He received the Doctor of Science degree from Mangalore University later in 2010. He has played a key role at National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore in the indigenization of advanced carbon composite airframes for the country’s major aircraft and space programs. This includes the research, development and commercialization of critical process equipment such as Aerospace Grade Autoclaves which have contributed to saving of precious foreign exchange by reducing imports from western countries. He was active in terms of promoting research collaborations in the area of Shape Memory Materials with Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium and Institute of Physics, Czech Republic.

In recognition of his contributions, he has been awarded the Biren Roy Trust award in 2009, the VASVIK award in 2011, the Innovation award of the Ministry of Fertilizers & Petrochemicals in 2014 and the CSIR Most Significant Technology of the plan period award in 2015. In 2012, he was nominated as the member of the Vision Group of Renewable Energy, Govt. of Karnataka. In 2019, he was nominated as the Vice Chairman of the Karnataka Aerospace Technology Centre. He was conferred the Eminent Engineer award by the Institution of Engineers in the same year. In 2020 he was appointed to the position of Outstanding Scientist, Technology Management Directorate, CSIR Hqrs, New Delhi. He is currently advising a start up in the new and emerging area of 3D printing and is active in science promotion in both urban and rural environments. This includes contributing to science articles in the vernacular. He has over a 100 research/conference papers to his credit including publications in prestigious international peer reviewed journals. He has delivered several invited talks all over India and abroad in the area of Polymeric Composites & Shape Memory Materials. SHANKAR – A PROFILE

Dr. R Shankar is an M Sc (I Rank) and Ph D from IIT, Bombay. He retired from Mangalore University as a professor of Marine Geology in 2017. He is a recipient of the NATIONAL MINERAL AWARD from the Govt. of India, the SIR C.V. RAMAN AWARD from the Govt. of Karnataka, and the YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD from the Karnataka Association for the Advancement of Science.

Dr. Shankar has an innate interest in earth science education at the school level and its popularization. He has carried out activities locally, nationally and internationally. He is presently:

Brief Bio Data of Sri Basavanagowda

Born in HaleBisleri, Davanagere (Tq. & Dt.), Karnataka, Dr Basavanagowda had his early education at his native place and then at Sri Sathyasai Institution Alike, Dakshina Kannada, Karmnataka. He completed his BE in Civil Engineering at Bapuji Institute of Technology, Davanagere and started his career as a cite Engineer in a private construction company and roused to become a senior project manager there. He also served as an entrepreneur for a couple of years. He earned good name as an Engineer as well as entrepreneur.

Dr Basavanagowda founded his own company Kundur Constructions Pvt. Ltd., in 2005 and steering the activities as its managing Director. The company is known for its sincerity with discipline, checks and balances where no compromise on material or end product is sustained. The focus has always been customer satisfaction which has brought the company got repeated orders from single source. So far Kundur Constructions has executed more than 150 big projects and has earned the reputation as one of the best company in the whole state.

Dr Basavanagowda has all along been inclined towards the society by doing charitable and developmental works to cater to the needy. Most of these charitable activities are conducted by founding “Smt. Gowramma Kundur Veerabhadrappa Trust” in the name of his parents for which he is the managing trustee. A convention Centre (Samudaya Bhavana) in his native village has been constructed through the trust at the cost of Rs TWO crores and is made available to the public free of cost. A new full pledged primary school building has been constructed at a cost of Rs THREE crore in his village to promote the rural education. In addition, for the poor students of the primary school financial support and books and stationaries are being provided through the trust. Many other such charitable activities are conducted for the needy poor students at the college and university level.

Dr Basavanagowda is happily married to Mrs. S R Latha. He is blessed with two children Mr. Rakshith K B and Ms. Pranathi K B.
